Multimedia Specialist

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Outreach, the multimedia specialist will work with other outreach/communications staff, as well as staff from across the agency, Board members and external parties to develop videos and other multimedia outreach materials covering agency activities and products, as well as transportation issues in North Jersey, while also assisting in the agency’s varied public outreach and communication functions. The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) is the federally authorized Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the 13-county northern New Jersey region, and is made up of representatives from local government and key transportation agencies. Each year, the NJTPA oversees over $2 billion in transportation improvement projects and provides a forum for interagency cooperation and public input.

Essential Functions:
Working closely with agency staff, the multimedia specialist will develop video content strategies and scripts to address organizational objectives. This includes developing story boards and consulting with staff on video projects; gathering footage of the transportation system; and recording meetings, press conferences, and events. In addition, the multimedia specialist will produce an ongoing, regularly updated video blog/series; assemble needed audio including recording narrations and purchasing appropriate music; editing audio and video to create finished products; develop budgets and schedules related to video projects; create and maintain a video content database; assist in uploading and distributing videos/presentations via the NJTPA website, YouTube and social media platforms; photographing meetings and events; assisting in cataloging, organizing and managing photos using the agency’s Digital Asset Management software; assisting in finding and supplying images on requested topics; working with communications staff, including graphic designer, to assist in preparation of presentations and multimedia materials including animation and other effects; developing content for posting to agency social media outlets; assisting outreach staff in arranging meetings, press events, conferences and other activities; assisting with the agency’s Street Smart NJ public education campaign, including administrative and logistical support; keeping abreast of new video and communications technologies and practices and recommending new approaches and equipment upgrades; assisting communications staff with writing assignments, including meeting summaries, minutes, articles, formatting of documents, etc.

Additional Functions:
Performs other duties as required. This includes developing content for posting to agency social media outlets; assisting outreach staff in arranging meetings, press events, conferences and other activities; assisting with the agency’s Street Smart NJ public education campaign, including administrative and logistical support.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in technology, graphics, business information or related field. Proficiency in Adobe Premier video editing software, audio mixing and media management. Mac proficiency. Experience lighting and shooting interviews. Experience audio/video recording and photographing meetings and events; social media and digital outreach savvy; 3 years’ relevant work experience; and relevant educational credentials.

Preferred Qualifications:
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
